Our Library
Our library is an integral part of our school community; it strives to foster a love for reading, whilst supporting academic endeavours and promoting lifelong learning.
The mission of the library is to support students in their journey to become knowledgeable, ethical, and inquisitive contributors to our world. To that end, we strive to support student learning both within and beyond the curriculum. We prepare students to meet the challenges they will face. It ensures a welcoming, safe, inclusive, and enriching environment for all students and staff.
The library comprises two main sections:
- The Elementary School library provides materials for Pre-K1 to Grade 5;
- The Secondary School library works with Grades 6-12.
The library provides access to digital and physical materials that cover various subjects. As an integral part of our commitment to fostering a well-rounded education, we value the role of the school library in promoting literacy, inquiry, academic integrity, and a love for learning.
The library supports the various programmes offered at VIS, with the librarian collaborating with teachers to develop and strengthen the students’ research skills. The librarian assists the students’ learning journeys throughout their time at school, with particular focus on certain components of the IB programmes, such as the Personal Project (MYP), the Reflective Project (CP) and the Extended Essay (DP). Topics covered include citation skills, online searching skills, website evaluation, and database use.
