Overview

Elementary School (Ages 5-11)

Elementary School represents a pivotal stage in a child’s education, characterised by significant growth and the development of foundational skills and dispositions that will influence their future.

We are committed to creating and upholding a safe, caring, and supportive environment that maximises each student's potential. This is achieved through modern pedagogical approaches that empower students to become inclusive, respectful, and inquisitive members of our community.

The curriculum is currently grounded in the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) and International Early Years Curriculum (IEYC), providing structured frameworks for instruction. Students engage in thematic units that encourage them to take ownership of their learning, tailored to their interests and developmental readiness. These units not only focus on academic skills but also on social-emotional development.

VIS is currently beginning its journey to offer the IB's Primary Years Programme (PYP). The PYP offers an inquiry-based and concept-driven transdisciplinary model of learning and teaching, supported by a strong understanding of how students learn. The Elementary School is looking forward to engaging in this process.

Community partnership is integral to our approach, enhancing the educational experience by involving families and local organisations. Regular communication between the school and home is valued highly at VIS, and we encourage parents to engage with the school community through various opportunities outlined in the Elementary Parent Handbook.
