Early Years
Early Years (Ages 3-5)
Pre-K1 (Eligible for children who turn age 3 by August 31st) - Pre-K2
Our Early Years (PK-1 and PK-2) classes are for children who are 3 and 4 years old by August 31st in the year they enrol. VIS offers the International Early Years Curriculum (IEYC) for our Early Years, a curriculum well aligned with the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) which is taught at VIS from Kindergarten to Grade 5.
IEYC focusses on the holistic development of our little ones and sets them off on a learning journey. This curriculum entails a balance of teacher-led activities and child-initiated play. The units are matched to the interests of this age group and cover all aspects of personal, social and emotional development. Through these units, the children also explore numeracy and literacy, focusing on:
- developing vocabulary through the relevant themes
- pre-literacy skills
- basic numeracy skills
- development of fine and gross motor skills through creative arts and other hands-on activities
- imaginative and Small World Play
- role play
- messy play
VIS is excited to embark on its journey with the Primary Years Programme (PYP), starting this year. This pivotal year marks the beginning of a comprehensive process aimed at fully integrating the PYP's inquiry-based, international curriculum into the early years of education at VIS. Over the next three years, the School will undergo a rigorous development and assessment process to align its educational practices with the high standards set by the International Baccalaureate (IB) organisation. This will include extensive teacher training, curriculum adjustments, and community engagement to ensure a holistic and enriching learning environment. The goal is to achieve full PYP accreditation by 2027, enhancing VIS's commitment to cultivating a community of young learners who are curious, knowledgeable, and driven to understand the world around them. This accreditation will also mean that VIS will become an IB Continuum School.
